Keep the agency

Everything from “Automate the work, keep the agency”: your worksheet, a way to keep thinking about it, and a way to bring it to your team.

Your worksheet

The same worksheet we used in the room. It’s a fillable PDF: type into it on screen, or print it and write by hand.

What we covered

01

Sort the work

Automate is one answer out of eight. Ask whether a task should exist before asking whether a machine can do it.

02

Hand off the task, not the decision

Use the judgment test (context, consequence, direction, craft) and give every tool a named owner.

03

Keep the agency

Automation gives you time back. Agency decides what it’s for.

Come back in a week

Look at the one task you chose. Did it work? Did you stop? Both are good answers.

Stop is a valid result.

Keep thinking about this

Design Choice is my monthly newsletter on how work is changing and who gets to shape it. It comes out on the first Tuesday of each month on LinkedIn.

Want this for your team?

I run Keep the agency as a hands-on workshop. Participants map their week task by task, decide what AI should do and what they should keep, and leave with one task to redesign this week. It can be booked on its own or with the keynote.
